SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Taconic’s Elijah Shaw, Noah Poirier and Riley Brown each earned a pin Wednesday to lead the Thunder to a 60-21 dual meet win over Mount Everett in the season opener for both teams.

Shaw needed just 11 seconds to get a pin at 138 pounds. Poirier also got a pin in the first minute of his match at 157, and Brown pinned his opponent at 215 in the first period.

The Eagles actually won four of the seven contested matches in the meet.

Diego Cruz (106), Connor Lupiani (126) and Max Manning (132) each earned a pin. Ian Lanoue won by decision at 157.

“The match of the night was at 132,” Mount Everett coach Dan Lanoue said. “Two Western Mass finalists from last year. Max got a takedown and back points in the second period.

“Then, in the third, he got another takedown and was able to put West [Dews] on his back for the pin.”

Ian Lanoue used a takedown in the first period and a reversal in the third to get the 4-0 win, Dan Lanoue said.

“It was good to get on the mats after two weeks of practice,” the Eagles coach said. “We have a lot of work to do moving forward with the season.”
