Harewood Third in 200 at State Meet

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Taconic High senior Elijah Harewood Thursday placed third in the 200 meters on the first day of the Division 5 State Championship at Westfield State University.

 

Harewood hit the tape in 22.21 seconds. Jiaia Gonzalez of Blue Hills Tech, who qualified second for the finals, won the title with a time of 21.93.

 

Harewood was the third-fastest qualifier for the finals, running 22.43 in the prelims.

 

Pittsfield High senior Zoe Ruth Brizan placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 100 feet, 10 inches.

 

In all, nine student-athletes from Pittsfield and three from Taconic competed on the first day of the state meet.

 

PHS junior Samseedy Touray placed ninth in the triple jump, while Dominique Billups was 11th in the 400-meter hurdles.

 

The D5 meet concludes on Saturday afternoon.
