Taconic Sizzles in Home Win
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Jason Fields and Gavin Maffuccio Friday each carded rounds of 37 to lead the Taconic golf team to a 150-180 win over Mount Everett at Berkshire Hills.
Fields birdied the third hole, and Maffuccio birdied No. 4 on their way to tying for medalist honors.
Their teammates Jason Codey and Simon Mele, both seniors, were right behind them at 38. Codey had a pair of birdies (No. 3 and No. 7); Mele birdied the eighth hole.
Not scoring but still impressing for Taconic were Charley Driscoll and senior Matt Egan, who finished at 39 and 40, respectively.
“We had our lowest score today since I’ve been coaching for the past five years,” Taconic coach Matt Capeless IV said. “Five guys under 40 and a 40 in the bunch. Punched a ticket the Division 1 Western Mass tournament. Did a great job protecting our home course.”
Finn Vion birdied the fourth hole on his way to a 39 to lead Mount Everett.
Taconic finishes its dual match schedule on Tuesday at home against Monument Mountain. The Eagles are home against Wahconah on Wednesday.
The county league’s best individuals will be at Taconic Golf Club on Friday for the Berkshire Classic.
Taconic (150): Jason Fields 37; Gavin Maffuccio 37; Jason Codey 38; Simon Mele 38; Charlie Driscoll 39; Matt Egan 40; River Avanzato 47; David Wildgoose 48.
