Walsh Leads Hurricanes to Narrow Victory

LENOX, Mass. – Hannah Walsh finished 14th in a field of 50 runners Wednesday to lead the Hoosac Valley girls cross country team to a 27-28 win over Lee and a 2-2 day in dual meet competitions.
 
The Hurricanes got four top 25 finishes in the five-team meet at Lenox Memorial Middle High School.
 
Briannah Superneau was just behind Walsh, placing 16th. Taylor Garabedian and Reagan Shea were 21st and 22nd, respectively.
 
Hoosac Valley beat Mount Everett but dropped dual meets against host Lenox and Wahconah, the latter by just a two-point margin.
 
Natylee Martin led the way for Wahconahwith a first-place finish. Eighth-grader Brooke Thomas, who was 26th overall, placed ninth in the dual meet to provide the margin of victory.
 
Eight dual meets were contested by the girls and boys at Lenox on Wednesday.
 
The host Millionaires went 3-0 on both the girls and boys side.
 
Lenox’s girls placed an impressive seven in the top 10, led by a 1-2-3-4 finish from Alice Culver (21:22.00), Elyssa Scrimo, Norah Schoeny and Lila Kousch.
 
Wahconah’s girls went 2-1, adding a win over Lee to their narrow victory over the Hurricanes.
 
In the boys race, Lenox ninth-grader Benjamin Harwood paced the field with a time of 18:24.63, 11 seconds ahead of teammate Samuel Geller in second.
 
While they went 3-0 on the day, the Millionaires were pushed by Wahconah, who got third- and fourth-place finishes overall from Noah Wesley and Fritz Sanders and came within five points of the reigning state champions from Lenox.
 
Wahconah went on to a 2-1 day, beating Lee and Hoosac Valley, which had just four finishers.
 
Mount Everett’s boys beat Lee in the only other contested boys race behind Ben Vella, who placed eighth overall.
