Wahconah Swimmers Even Season Series with New Lebanon

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Aiden Aldrich led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50-yard freestyle Wednesday as the Wahconah swim team earned a 95-72 win over New Lebanon-Berlin.
 
The two teams faced off in a co-ed meet at the Boys and Girls Club since the Tigers are swimming as a boys team this winter.
 
Aldrich touched in 33.86 seconds, ahead of teammates Wyatt Wellington (36.47) and Abigail Cobb (39.42). Together, the trio accounted for 13 points in the win.
 
Wahconah’s other win came in the 200 free relay, where Sarah Curti, Elizabeth Wheeler, Wellington and Aldrich combined for a winning time of 2:28.15 Wahconah’s B relay placed second in the event, giving the team 12 team points.
 
Wahconah also grabbed nine points in the 200 freestyle, where Ella Reardon (2:52.11) placed second, and the 100 breaststroke, where Liam Looney (1:43.62) placed second.
 
For New Lebanon, Liam Buckenroth, Allison Slater and Alex Sotek each won a pair of events.
 
Buckenroth took first in the 200 free (2:48.20) and 500 free (6:01.53). Slater won the 200 individual medley (2:47.09) and 100 free (1:10.09). Sotek won the 100 butterfly (1:13.80) and 100 backstroke (1:15.38.
 
Wednesday’s win avenged a 20-point loss for Wahconah when the teams met in New York earlier this winter.
