Wahconah Girls Win Nail-Biter, League Title

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Wahconah girls swim team’s 4-by-100 freestyle relay team won the day’s last event Wednesday to clinch a 75-72 win over Taconic Hills and a share of the Berkshire County South Division title.
 
Sarah Curti, Abby Cobb, Sheffield Drewry and Elizabeth Wheeler teamed up to swim a time of 5 minutes, 27.08 seconds to take eight team points and overcome a one-point deficit going into the relay.
 
Cobb also picked up an individual win, taking the 50-meter freestyle in 37.38 seconds, and Curti won the 500 free in 6:11.44.
 
Drewry and Curti teamed with Sarah Kunzmann and Ella Reardon to win the 4-by-50 free relay in 2:18.74.
 
The win gave Wahconah a 1-0-1 record against co-division titlist Taconic Hills this winter. The first time they met, they tied, 66-66.
 
Wahconah’s boys Wednesday cruised to a 64-12 win as Taconic Hills’ lone swimmer, Neil Howard, won the 50 free (26.00) and 100 free (1:02.22).
 
Wahconah got individual wins from Evan Strout in the 200 free (3:02.81), Kyle Wellington in the 200 individual medley (3:48.15) Liam Looney in the 100 butterfly (1:34.52), Aiden Aldrich in the 500 free (7:01.84), Raoule Khaye in the 100 backstroke (1:35.31) and Wyatt Wellington in the 100 breaststroke (2:13.08).
