DALTON, Mass. -- The Wahconah volleyball team fought back from going down 1-0 and 2-1 Tuesday evening to earn a five-set win over Pittsfield.

Pittsfield came out strong in the first set, hitting some hard serves that made the passing for Wahconah difficult; they took the first set, 25-18, to lead, 1-0.

Katara Mullet recorded three aces in the first set. Teammates Michaela LeBlanc, Riley Nichols, and Rachel Munch each recorded one.

Wahconah quickly went down in the second set 20-14 after Mullet's serves struck them again; she had four aces. The hosts were able to fight their way back into the set and got within two (24-22); coach Dave Lussier called a timeout and after Sara LaFreniere got a block to tie it at 24, Wahconah was able to win, 26-24, to tie the match at 1-1.

"We're just concentrating on our defensive coverage, we were trying to see where they were placing the ball in the first couple of sets," Lussier said. "We tried to fill those holes and leave other places open and try to adjust to it."

Pittsfield came out in the third set and won 25-20; Wahconah kept it close.

The Generals went down in the forth set; Wahconah's momentum being very high. The Generals called a timeout after trailing by four; but Wahconah came back out to win the set, 25-23, and take it to a fifth set.

"See-saw battle, they compensated for that and went back to the same thing again, it was a chess match for a while, but both sides played really well tonight," Lussier said.

Audrey Pierce had nine blocks for Wahconah. Two came in the fifth set to help her team win the set 15-7.

Wahconah travels to Taconic Thursday and Pittsfield hosts St. Joseph.
