Mount Greylock Girls Reach Western Mass Title Match

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Berkshire County Thursday will claim its first Western Massachusetts team title since 2019 after the Mount Greylock girls tennis team posted a 5-0 win over Pioneer Valley Christian Academy in Wednesday’s Division 3 sectional semi-final.
 
The third-seeded Mounties (9-1) earned the right to host No. 4 Lee (7-1), a 4-1 winner over Monument Mountain on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Mounties did not drop a set against PVCA, winning two of their matches without dropping a game.
 
At the top of the ladder, Mia Van Deurzen earned a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win. No. 3 Charlotte Sanford cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
 
Mount Greylock was only pushed at second singles, where Hannah Gilooly came away with a 7-5, 6-4 win.
 
At first doubles, Izzy Leonard and Olivia Winters won, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Mai O’Connor and Piper Schulman prevailed, 6-1, 6-3.
 
Mount Greylock will host Lee at 5 p.m. on Thursday on the Williams College tennis courts for the right to move on to the state tournament.
