Mount Greylock Volleyball Opens with Win over Chicopee

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Mount Greylock captain Takiera Darrow served six straight points to open the season-opening match and sent the Mounties on to a four-set win over Chicopee on Thursday.
 
Darrow finished with five kills and eight aces for Mount Greylock, which prevailed by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 18-25, 25-15.
 
Celina Savage had eight blocks to go with six kills. Charlotte Coody had five aces, five kills and a pair of blocks.
 
"We tried several different lineups, and switched between a 6-2 and 5-1 during the contest,” Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said. “We were able to get many of our first-year players into the match. I am very happy with the progress of our new players and the rapid maturity of our veterans."
 
Junior Lainey Gill had five aces, and senior Emma Sandstrom recorded four kills.
 
Mount Greylock (1-0) hosts Belchertown on Monday.
