WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – It took a tie-breaker, but the Mount Greylock golf team Tuesday used its depth to hand Wahconah its first loss since 2021, a 203-207 decision at Waubeeka Golf Links.

“It feels amazing,” Mount Greylock senior Owen Petropulos said. “We played really well as a team. That was our best score of the whole year. It really shows a great team effort, too, with our fifth man coming through with his career round for a tie-break.”

The teams were tied, 161-161, after adding up each squad’s top four finishers.

Petropulos led the way for the Mounties with a 1-over 36 on the back nine at Waubeeka, tying Wahconah’s Pat McLaughlin for medalist honors.

Will Svrluga came in at 41 for Mount Greylock, which then got 42s from three different players – Thomas Art, Ben Dingman and Jacob Hillman – to pull away.

“Job well done to the Greylock? golf team and coach [Erik] Tiele,” Wahconah coach Pete Terpak said. “They played a very gutsy match, out on a very difficult back nine. Hats off to them.”

Petropulos birdied the par-4 11th and par-5 17th.

“No. 11 is a tough hole, so that was a good birdie,” Petropulos said after making the trip up the hill to John Allen Field to catch the end of the Mounties’ boys soccer game.

“There was a tournament on the front going on, so we had to play the back. It’s a good nine. It’s different. We like it better a little bit, usually.”

Art, Dingman, Hillman and Max Wied each birdied a hole for Mount Greylock.

McLaughin finished strong with birdies on 17 and the par-4 18th. Tim Kaley also had a pair of birdies in finishing at 39 for Wahconah, which got a 41 from Sam McLaughlin, a 45 from Vincent Scalise and a 46 from Brady Breitmaier to round out the scoring.

Wahconah (2-1) goes to Lenox on Thursday.

Mount Greylock (3-0) hosts Taconic on Friday.

Petropulos said Tuesday’s win should give the Mounties a lot of confidence going forward.

“We were feeling pretty good going into it, but I think this win really shows how we’re a team,” he said. “We stick together. We pick each up. And it’s just a great team win. We’re really happy right now.”

Mount Greylock 203: Owen Petropulos 36; Thomas Art 42; Ben Dingman 42; Jacob Hillman 42; Will Svrluga 41; Max Wied 48.

Wahconah 207: Patrick McLaughlin 36; Vincent Scalise 45; Tim Kaley 39; Sam McLaughlin 41; Brady Breitmaier 46; Carter Drake 48.
