Mount Greylock Girls Win Western Mass Title

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Monument Mountain’s Amelia Desilets ran to an individual championship, and the Mount Greylock girls won a team title on Sunday at the PVIAC Western Massachusetts Championships at Stanley Park.

Cornelia Swabey paced the Mounties with a time of 19 minutes, 42.94 seconds as Mount Greylock finished with 37 team points, easily winning over runner-up Hampshire Regional (60 points).

Desilets led the field by 55 seconds, clocking a time of 18:36.55.

Lenox and Monument Mountain bolstered a strong county contingent in the girls race, placing third and fourth, respectively, in a 21-team Class B field.

In the boys championship, Mount Greylock and Lenox placed second and third-respectively, behind team champion Hampshire in the 22-team Class B field.

Lenox’s Benjamin Harwood finished second in the boys race, crossing the finish line in 15:45.14, a little less than 12 seconds behind Frontier Regional’s Evan Hudlund.

The county’s harriers will spend the next two weeks preparing for the Division 3 state qualifying meets on Nov. 8 at Fort Devens.
