Mount Greylock's Hillman 10th at State Championship
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Mount Greylock’s Jacob Hillman Tuesday carded a 6-over-par 77 to finish tied for 10th place at the Division 2 State Championships at Taconic Golf Club.
Hillman was the highest finisher of the eight Berkshire County players at the 18-hole event.
He birdied four holes at Taconic, which was pressed into service after the state tournament in Eastern Mass was canceled due to weather last week.
Hillman broke par on the par-5 first hole, par-3 ninth hole, par-4 12th hole and par-5 18th after starting his day on the second hole in the shotgun start.
Tantasqua’s Sam Pieczynski won the individual medal with a 1-over round of 72 that included an eagle on the 498-yard, par-5 10th hole.
Canton won the team title with a team score of plus-40, finishing three strokes ahead of a pair of schools who tied for second place.
Mount Greylock was the only county team to qualify as a team for the event.
The Mounties scored rounds from Hillman, Max Wied, Will Svrluga and Kai Nafziger to finish 12th in the state. Wied carded a birdie on the par-4 13th hole.
Wahconah’s Sam McLaughlin and Kesler Anello each qualified as individuals for the tournament. They placed 59th and 67th, respectively.
