WINSOR, Mass. -- Mount Greylock's Lauren Miller Tuesday skied to an individual win to lead the Mounties to a team victory on opening day of the Berkshire County High School Nordic Ski League.

Miller covered the five-kilometer course at Notchview Reservation in 18 minutes, 20 seconds to finish 43 seconds ahead of Mohawk Trail's Charlotte Niswonger, who placed second.

Miller and the Mounties finished with 14 team points, well ahead of Niswonger's Mohawk team, which finished with 41.

Mount Greylock's boys also earned a team win, placing 10 points ahead of Amherst.

Luke Irwin and Benjamin Mandel placed second and third-respectively for the Mounties.

Amherst's Calvin Miller won the season's first race, clocking a time of 14:46 that was three seconds ahead of Irwin.

The season opener -- delayed from Dec. 31 -- saw a smaller than usual field. Lenox Memorial, which traditionally fields strong boys and girls teams, canceled all after school activities on Tuesday afternoon due to the weather forecast.

Wahconah's boys placed third in the boys race, just behind runner-up Amherst. Wahconah was led by Beau Sanders and Owen Tucker in fourth and fifth places, respectively.

Wahconah's girls, who placed fourth, got a fifth-place finish from Megan Tucker.
