Smith, Arthur Excel for Mounties at Queensbury Invitational

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. -- Mount Greylock sophomore Margo Smith placed seventh on Saturday at the Queensbury Invitational.
 
Smith covered the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 21 seconds, about half a minute behind victory Sophia Gorman of Champlain Valley Union (Vermont), who finished in 18:50.
 
Gorman led her team to a first-place finish in the varsity Division 1 girls race with 57 points, seven points ahead of runner-up Colonie, N.Y.
 
On the boys side, Mount Greylock was eighth out of 16 teams in the varsity D1 event.
 
Saratoga Springs, N.Y., was first with 67 points, finishing ahead of Niskayuna (91). The Mounties came in with 222 points and were led by Evan Arthur, who placed 15th with a time of 16:36.
 
The boys D1 race was won by Champlain Valley's Tyler Marshall, who clocked a 15:55.
