WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Berkshire County wrestlers are seeded first in six of the 14 weight classes at Saturday’s Western Massachusetts Division 3 Championships at Mount Greylock.

Two of the tournament favorites come from Monument Mountain and two come from Taconic.

That is the result of the tournament’s seeding meeting on Thursday at Mount Greylock.

The home Mounties have one favorite, Jayquan Vazquez, who sports a record of 18-2 at 190 pounds.

Vazquez could see Monument Mountain’s Shaun Frank (14-6), the tournament’s second seed, in the sectional title match.

Frank’s teammates Keegan Dargie (15-5) and defending sectional champion Sam St. Peter (29-0) are seeded first at 113 and 285, respectively.

Taconic’s two No. 1 seeds are West Dews and defending champion Noah Poirier.

Poirier, who won the 160 pound title last year, is seeded first at 175 pounds with a record of 27-3 this winter. He is on track to face Mount Greylock’s Jacob Borawski (18-3) the tournament’s second seed, in the finals.

Dews (21-5) is seeded first at 132. He could be headed to a rematch against Mount Everett’s Max Manning (18-4), who is seeded No. 2.

Manning’s teammate, Diego Cruz, will try to defend his 2023 Western Mass title at 106 pounds as the No. 1 seed on Saturday. Cruz is 29-1 this winter.

Other No. 2 seeds from the county include Monument Mountain’s Alexander Schindler (23-7) at 120, Mount Everett’s Connor Lupiani (23-4) at 126, Taconic’s Elijah Shaw (11-9) at 138 and Mount Everett’s Ian Lanoue (16-9) at 157.
