County Swimmers Compete at State Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Five Berkshire County swimmers competed at last weekend's Division 2 State Championships at MIT.
 
The Monument Mountain girls ended up placing 18th in the commonwealth out of 38 teams earning points at the event.
 
Sophomore Keaghan Kline led the way for the Spartans, competing in two events as an indvidual and on two relays.
 
Kline earned a medal with as sixth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1 minute, .78 seconds, nearly a second faster than her seed time.
 
Longmeadow's Lilah Doherty won the event in 55.86.
 
Kline also finished 11th in the 50 freestyle, again beating her seed time, this time by nearly four-tenths of a second with a time of 25.22.
 
Kline teamed with Monument Mountain teammates Annabel Holmes, Adalyn Shufelt and Helen Thorp to place 12th in the 400 freestyle relay.
 
The same quartet was 12th in the state in the 200 free relay.
 
Thorp, a junior, placed 24th in the 100 backstroke as an individual.
 
Taconic senior Mia Zuccalo qualified in the 100 breaststroke. She placed 19th in the field.
