Three Spartans Reach Semis at State Championships

GLOUCESTER, Mass. – Three Monument Mountain wrestlers Friday advanced to the semi-finals of the Division 3 State Championships at Gloucester High School.
 
Mason St. Peter, Christopher St. Peter and Isaac Hartshorn each advanced through Friday’s quarter-finals to reach the second day of the tournament.
 
Mason St. Peter at 106 pounds earned a technical fall in his Round of 16 and pinned Hanover’s Thomas Geary in the quarters to reach a Saturday semi-final against Jason Ireland-Schmuck of East Longmeadow.
 
At 113, Christopher St. Peter pinned his way into the round of eight and then beat East Longmeadow’s Noah Rushford. He will see Middleborough’s Josh Gonsalves in the round of four.
 
Hartshorn started his day with a first-round pin and then pinned South Hadley’s Jasiel Ramos with eight seconds left in their quarter-final bout. Hartshorn Saturday will face Southwick-Tolland’s Jackson Bisson for a berth in the championship round.
 
Mount Everett and Mount Greylock each are sending one wrestler into the state semi-finals.
 
At 150, the Eagles’ Max Manning pinned both his opponents on Friday, stopping Lynnfield/North Reading’s Luke Molla in the second round of their quarter-final match. Next up for Manning is Holliston’s Henry McElligott on Saturday morning. 
 
Mount Greylock sent four wrestlers to the quarter-finals. Jacob Borawski survived with a first-period pin of Holliston’s Grady Kiley. Borawski reached the quarters with a technical fall in his Round of 16 bout.
 
On Saturday, Borawski will start his day against Pentucket’s Cooper Zaneski in the semis.
 
Heading into day two of the meet, Dedham leads the team standings with 53 points. Mount Greylock is 13th with 32 points. Monument Mountain is 16th (30 points), and Mount Everett is 35th (11 points).
