Caroline Bissaillon Wins Two Western Mass Titles

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Monument Mountain junior Caroline Bissaillon won two Western Massachusetts titles on Saturday at Springfield College.
 
Bissaillon won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.92 seconds, edging Longmeadow's Monika Nowak (:25.58). Monument freshman Kathleen Bissaillon finished sixth in :26.45.
 
Caroline Bissaillon won the 100 free in :53.46, again beating Nowak (:54.62). This time, Kathleen Bissaillon placed fifh in :57.21.
 
The Bissaillons teamed with Aubrey Blanchard and Emma Wilber to lead Monument to a third-place finish in the 400 free relay. The Spartans finished in 3:46.35, behind Longmeadow (3:39.63) and Minnechaug.
 
In the 200 free relay, the Bissaillons, Wilber and Anna Rubino teamed up to place second behind Longmeadow. The Lancers finished in 1:40.17, ahead of the Spartans' 1:42.67.
 
Wilber earned a pair of medals as an individual. She placed second in the 100 butterfly, finishing in :59.91, behind Minnechaugh's Lauren Quinn (:57.51). Wilber was third in the 100 breaststroke. Jerrica Li of Longmeadow finished in 1:04.27; Wilber clocked a time of 1:09.42.
 
In the boys Western Mass championship meet, Monument Mountain's Brandon Louison finished second in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
 
In the 100 free, Louison touched in :47.73, four one-hundredths behind sectional champion Karl Tomlinson of Minnechaugh. In the backstroke, Louison's time of :53.35 was a little more than half a second behind Northampton's Nick Whitcomb, who set a Western Mass record with a :52.74.
 
Louison teamed with Nick Dillon, Ben Wyatt and Nick Gray to post a sixth-place finish in the 200 medley relay, where Monument clockd a 1:46.14. Northampton set a meet record with a time of 1:37.72.
 
Wyatt finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke, clocking a 1:04.02 in an event won by Belchertown's Matthew Quinney in 1:00.24.
 
St. Joseph Central's Jesse Tobin placed second in two events.
 
In the 200 free, she touched in 1:56.80, nine one-hundredths behind Longmeadow's Sydney Joyce. In the 500 free, Joyce won in 5:09.55; Tobin was second in 5:11.81.
 
Tobin swam a leg on two medaling relays for the Crusaders.
 
In the 200 medley relay, Emma Whitney, Elizabeth Bartlett, Tobin and Elizabeth Bernardy placed third in 1:56.10. Westfield won the event in 1:52.80.
 
In the 200 free relay, the same St. Joe quartet finished fourth in 1:44.47. Longmeadow took the title in 1:40.17.
 
Bernardy earned a fourth-place finish on her own in the 100 breaststroke. She finished in 1:11.53.
