Nda Wins 100 at Western Mass D1 Meet

HOLYOKE, Mass. -- Pittsfield High’s Emmanuel Nda Saturday won the 100 meter dash at the Western Massachusetts Division 1 Track and Field Championships.
 
Nda stopped the clock in 11 seconds flat to win by 8 one-hundredths of a second and lead a final heat that included teammates David Kankam (11.39) and Sam Higuera (11.47).
 
Pittsfield’s boys placed second in the 4-by-100 relay, finishing in 44.198 seconds -- three thousandths of a second behind Chicopee Comp.
 
In the field, Connor Hayford posted a second-place finish in the javelin for PHS with a throw of 146-04.
 
The Generals placed seventh in a 13-team field with 55 points. Northampton’s boys won the team title with 120 points.
 
In the girls meet, Pittsfield placed 13th with 12 points.
 
Cami Diehl picked up a pair of points by placing eighth in the mile (6:03.47) and the 2-mile (12:58.20).
 
Pittsfield’s 4-by-800 relay finished in third place with a time of 10:55.22, more than seven seconds off its seed time.
 
Pittsfield sophomore Meredith McCandless finished fifth in the javelin, throwing 91 feet even.
 
Also scoring for the the Pittsfield boys were: Nasim Purry, fifth in the 200 in 23.70; Kevin D’Aniello, fifth in the 110 hurdles in 17.12; Gabe Rich, eighth in the 400 hurdles in 62.04; the team’s 4-by-400 relay (seventh in 3:37.30) and 4-by-800 relay (seventh in 9:09.30); John Donahue, fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-8; and Kieran Coscia, seventh in the discus with a mark of 110-6.
