CHARLEMONT, Mass. -- The top girl in the Berkshire County Alpine League all season was the lone medalist from the local contingent at Wednesday's Alpine State Championships at Berkshire East.

Pittsfield High's Grace Ungewitter placed eighth in the giant slalom on Wednesday morning claim one of 10 medals in the discipline.

She crossed the finish line in 51.59 seconds to finish, 2.3 seconds behind girls GS champ Cate Honos of Marblehead.

Ungewitter said she had a good feeling about her performance during the run.

"It felt really good," she said. "The snow was in a perfect condition to go fast on, and I put myself in a good mindset to go as hard as I could.

"I mean, it's states, so you can do anything. Just send it."

Ungewitter was among a handful of top 25 finishers from the county as 146 boys and 146 girls from across the commonwealth converged on Berkhire East.

Two others in the top 25 came from the boys competition.

Monument Mountain's Kitson Stover, who, like Ungewitter, finished first in the league standings at Bousquet this winter, finished 16th in the slalom on Tuesday morning and 23rd in the GS on Tuesday afternoon.

Lenox's Rocco Piretti was the fastest Berkshire boy in the GS, crossing the line in 51.63.

Individual winners on Wednesday included Honos and her Marblehead teammate Baxter Jennings, who led the Magicians to a fifth team championship in six seasons (no state meet in 2021)

Mohawk Trail's girls defended their 2022 state crown behind Addie Loomis, who won the slalom and placed second in the GS.

Monument Mountain's Stover, who ran away with the individual league title and led the Spartan boys to a first-place finish in a tight league race, said the conditions presented a challenge.

"It was a good competition, it was pretty competitive," Stover said. "The course was pretty rough. But other than that, it was fun.

"I thought [the trail] was going to be a little more beat up, but it was pretty soft. Other than that, it was all good."
