Anwomeah Leads Pittsfield Boys to Eighth-Place Finish at State Meet
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Emmanuel Anwomeah Sunday placed second in the 400 meters and ran a leg on Pittsfield High’s second-place 4-by-400 relay quartet to lead the Generals to an eighth-place finish at the Division 5 State Championships at Bridgewater State University.
Anwomeah ran a time of 50.4 seconds in the 400 to finish .68 seconds behind winner Jiai Gonzalez of Blue Hills Regional Tech.
In the final event of the two-day meet, Enwomeah teamed with Amos Ezan, Samseedy Touray and Seth Aitken to run a time of 3 minutes, 28.81 seconds, good enough to break a Berkshire County record in the event and place second behind the team from Old Rochester Regional (3:23.86).
The previous county record in the 4-by-400 was 3:29.1, set by Monument Mountain in 2021.
Also scoring for the Pittsfield boys on Sunday was Aiden Alibozek, who posted a mark of 143 feet, 8 inches to place sixth in the javelin.
Taconic’s boys finished in 17th place at the State Championships, which began on Friday night.
Romeo Yankey placed third in the 400 on Sunday, hitting the line in 50.10 – 6 one-hundredths behind Anwomeah.
The Thunder’s Jaylen Hamilton finished seventh in the high jump, clearing 5-10.
In the girls high jump on Sunday, Pittsfield’s Sophia Schnackenberg cleared 5-2 to place third in the event and give the Generals six points for a 30th-place finish.
