Lenox Secures Boys Title, Girls Race Tightens Up
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Lenox’s Owen Tanner and Mackenzie Valenzuela Thursday were the fastest skiers down the mountain in a Berkshire County High School Alpine League slalom race at Bousquet.
Tanner led the Millionaires’ boys team to its fifth win in five races to clinch a league title with one week left in the regular season.
Valenzuela and Lenox girls also won, picking up their second win of the winter to draw within a point of league-leading Pittsfield in the team standings.
Monument Mountain’s girls finished second for the first time since Week One behind a fifth-place finish by Lucy Dohoney. That pushed Pittsfield into third despite the runner-up showing from Isabella Scalise and Reese Albano’s fourth-place finish.
The Generals head into Monday’s Senior Night and season-ending giant slalom race with 47 team points, one ahead of Lenox.
The top two team positions are flipped on the boys’ team standings. But second-place Pittsfield, with 45 points, cannot catch Lenox, which takes 50 points into meet No. 6.
Tanner and Kody Lesser finished 1-2 for Lenox on Thursday, and teammates Adam Tanner and Craig Newbert were fourth and fifth-respectively.
Breaking up Lenox’s hold on the top five spots was Pittsfield’s Colin Benke in third.
