SHEFFIELD, Mass. – The Mount Everett baseball team Tuesday rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh but could not catch Granby, which took a 4-3 win in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class D tournament.

Nathaniel Von Ruden hit a bases clearing double with two out to drive in the Eagles’ only runs of the game.

But Granby reliever Andrew Feldman got the next batter to fly to center field to end the game.

Feldman came on in relief of Daniel Gauvin, who struck out 12, walked one and allowed just one earned run for the Rams.

“Daniel Gauvin pitched a great game, pounding the zone,” Mount Everett coach Dan Lanoue said. “We just couldn’t get to him.”

Von Ruden’s double was just the third hit of the game for Mount Everett.

Heyden Cutlip went the distance on the mound for the Eagles, striking out five and allowing three earned runs.

Mount Everett (10-8) finishes the regular season on Thursday at home against Turners Falls.
