BUCKLAND, Mass. – The Mount Everett baseball team Thursday beat Mohawk Trail handily enough to also beat the rain.

The Eagles started their road game early in an effort to avoid the forecast thunderstorms, and they got their offense going early with seven runs in the top of the first en route to a 13-1 win.

“Nathaniel [Von Ruden] was in control the whole game, finishing the fifth inning by striking out the side with the rain starting to fall,” Mount Everett coach Dan Lanoue said.

Ben Shannon went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles to lead Mount Everett’s offense. Von Ruden helped his cause with a 2-for-3 day at the plate and struck out 10 on the mound.

Mount Everett (3-1) hosts Housatonic Valley (Conn.) on Friday.
