Matrigali Pitches, Hits Hoosac into Western Mass Semis

SOUTHWICK, Mass. -- Noah Matrigali drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth and pitched a complete game to lead the Hoosac Valley baseball team to a 2-1 win over Southwick-Tolland on Monday in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 quarter-finals.
 
Matrigali singled to left to score Matt Koperniak, who reached on an error and moved to third on a Dahndray Sistrunk single.
 
On the mound, Matrigali struck out eight and allowed just one hit to earn the win.
 
Second-seeded Southwick took the lead in the bottom of the first, but Jake Swistak tied the game with one swing of the bat in the fourth. His leadoff home run cleared the fence in center field to make it 1-1.
 
Tenth-seeded Hoosac Valley (14-8) will face Frontier on Wednesday in the sectional semi-finals at UMass-Amherst at 4 p.m.
