Wahconah Defeats Monument Mountain
DALTON, Mass. – Sam McLaughlin struck out nine and allowed no earned runs in six innings on the mound Saturday to lead the Wahconah baseball team to a 6-3 win over Monument Mountain.
McLaughlin walked two and scattered four hits as Wahconah won its fifth straight game.
“[McLauughln] threw very well and threw a lot of strikes and put us in a great position to get ahead early,” Wahconah coach Collin Parrott said. “Sam is the ultimate competitor. Whatever is asked of him, he will go and do it and do it 100 percent.”
Aiden Areseneau hit a solo home run, and Luke Ferguson and Scott Hoffmann each doubled in a seven-hit Wahconah attack. Brodie Kelly-Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Hoffmann also closed the game, allowing one earned run in the seventh. He got the final out on a ground ball to Kelly-Smith at second base to strand a runner on third.
Dom Calautti led Monument Mountain’s offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and stealing three bases. Gus Luff went 1-for-3 with a double.
Mason Bailey struck out six and allowed four earned runs in going the distance on the mound for the Spartans.
Monument Mountain (0-7) hosts Southwick on Wednesday.
Wahconah (6-1) hosts Springfield International Charter on Monday.
