Genaway Shines on Mound, at Plate in Wahconah's Extra Innings Win

DALTON, Mass. -- Will Genaway struck out 12 men on the mound and hit a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Wahconah baseball team to a 4-3 win over Monson in the first round of the Wahconah Tournament on Saturday.
 
Wahconah cashed in on two Mustang errors in the bottom of the eighth to complete a comeback win and set up a date with Monument Mountain in the tournament finale.
 
Trip Verdi got the winning rally started when he reached on a two-base error to lead off the inning. Bob Archambault’s bunt single moved Verdi to third.
 
After Dan Campbell drew a walk, Austin Cancilla reached on Monson’s second error of the inning to score Verdi and end the game.
 
Wahconah (3-1) led, 1-0 going to the seventh inning but fell behind when Monson scored three unearned runs off starter Genaway.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, Austin Cancilla reached on an error with one out, and Ty Cowdrey drove him home with a two-out double to center.
 
Genaway then drove home Cowdrey with a game-tying single to force extra innings.
 
Cowdrey went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the game.
 
Genaway finished his complete-game win, allowing just one hit and three walks against the 12 Ks.
