CHESHIRE, Mass. -- After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, the Hoosac Valley baseball team rallied back behind the arm of junior Mike Koperniak to earn a 6-3 victory over Mount Greylock on Friday.

The Mounties (2-3) got to Koperniak for two runs in the first frame, but didn't score on him again until the top of the sixth inning. The Hoosac junior allowed just two earned runs over five innings to improve his record to 3-0 this season. Koperniak struck out six batters and walked two before giving way to senior Nick Burzimati, who didn't allow a run over the final two innings of work

The Hurricnaes (3-1) took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning and padded it by scoring two more runs in the third frame.

"We were well balanced in pitching, defense and timely hitting today, allowing us to grind out a tough victory against a solid Mount Greylock team," Hoosac head coach Bob Rivard said. "Our infield turned two double plays today and four different players came through with runs batted in."

Zach Lancia, Corey Meczywor, Aaron Solari and Nick Bourdon each came through with RBI on a day when seven different Hurricanes had one hit apiece.

Sophomore Sean Houston and senior Kyle Byrnes led the Mounties' offense, each going 2 for 4 with one run scored. Sophomore Andrew Leitch took the loss for Greylock, allowing four earned runs on six hits in 4 and two-thirds innings of work.

Hoosac next plays at Mount Everett at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
