WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Jack Cangelosi struck out 10 in a complete-game effort, and Derek Paris went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Mount Greylock baseball team beat Frontier, 3-0, on Saturday.

The Mounties scored single runs in the first and second before tacking on a run in the third to help Cangelosi win the pitcher’s duel with Frontier’s Sam Schreiber.

“Early on, we had a big defensive play in the top of first,” Mount Greylock coach Rick Paris said. “With the lead off runner on, they hit a double down the right field line, and we mistakenly threw to second instead of home, but that caused their base runner to try and score and our shortstop, Jackson [Shelsy] turned and threw home to Derek who put the tag on and keep the game scoreless.

“This play ended up being one of the big plays for us in a low scoring affair.”

Dylan Harrison and Pariseach doubled. Thomas Martin had the only other base hit for Mount Greylock, which made the most of its five hits and took advantage of three errors by Frontier (8-2).

Cangelosi walked just two and scattered eight hits to earn the shutout win.

“In the first inning, after singling, [Derek Paris] stole second, then third and scored on the overthrow to third,” Rick Paris said. “That ended up being the winning run and all Jack needed to get the W. [Cangelosi] was able to keep the hitters off balance all day and even though they had eight hits, none of them were hard hit balls.”

Mount Greylock (5-1) takes a four-game winning streak into Monday’s game at Hopkins Academy.
