Pittsfield Pounds West Side in Rematch

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Morrie Fried and Simon Mele each homered Friday as the Pittsfield baseball team avenged one of its two losses with a 13-3 win over West Springfield.
 
Fried went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Mele was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in.
 
Jason Codey was 4-for-4, and Cam Zerbato was 2-for-3 with a double in a 16-hit attack for Pittsfield.
 
Mele and Matthew Burega split time on the hill in the six-inning, mercy rule win.
 
Mele struck out three and allowed three runs in five innings of work. Burega worked a 1-2-3 sixth to hold a 9-3 lead.
 
Jack Reed ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with a line drive to right to score Caeden Boehm and give the Generals a 10-run margin.
 
Pittsfield (11-2) goes to Westfield on Tuesday.
