Burega, Pittsfield Handle Hopkins

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Matthew Burega struck out five and walked none in six innings on the mound Wednesday to pitch the Pittsfield baseball team to a 7-0 win over Hopkins Academy in the Generals’ regular season finale.
 
Burega allowed two hits before giving the ball to Cam Zerbato, who struck out the side in order in the top of the seventh to close out the game.
 
“Burega was dominant and efficient on the mound today, and [Jack] Abel, [Morrie] Fried and [Connor] Devine provided the offense for a well-played win on Senior Day,” Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said.
 
Abel went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI at the top of Pittsfield’s lineup.
 
Devine and Fried each was 2-for-3 with a triple, and Jason Codey doubled in a nine-hit attack for the Generals.
 
Pittsfield (14-4) learns Tuesday who it will open play against in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class B Tournament.
