NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Jake Tuoponce answered the call in a big way for the McCann Tech boys in Tuesday’s season-opener.

Despite never having played a game, Tuoponce, normally a middie for the Hornets, stepped into goal due to an illness to McCann Tech’s starting goalie and stopped 14 shots in a 12-8 win over St. Mary’s.

Evan Rose led the McCann Tech offense with six goals, and Parker Hart scored four times in the win.

Lucan McGrath and Nick Abuisi each scored a goal, and Max Moran had five assists in the win.

The Hornets (1-0) go to Smith Vocational on Friday.
