GRAFTON, Mass. -- The Grafton boys lacrosse team Wednesday jumped out to a 9-1 half-time lead and never looked back in a 14-2 win over Wahconah in the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 semi-finals.

Jeremy Girard set up Kyle Gazzillo and Dart Jaggi for the Wahconah goals, and Vinny Orlandi made 15 saves in the defeat.

"Grafton is a state championship team and they played like it," Wahconah coach Zach Sondrini said. "We were stunned by their high energy transition game. You can't prepare for a team like that without getting to that game.

"I'm grateful for the performance the guys put in to get us to that game. It's the only way to see that next level of play. Hopefully some of the younger guys were able to take away from that experience so we can prepare for competing at the caliber next season. I'm also grateful to the seniors who worked so hard to get us in a position to play that game. They're a great class and they will be missed."

Wahconah finishes 14-6 in a year that saw the program make its deepest run in the sectional tournament.

First-seeded Grafton (20-2) moves on to the Central/Western Mass final against No. 2 Nipmuc (19-2), a 15-7 winner over Mount Greylock on Wednesday night.
