DALTON, Mass. – Devin Lampron scored eight goals and set up three more Tuesday to lead the Wahconah boys lacrosse team to a 22-7 win over Lynnfield in the quarter-finals of the Division 4 State Tournament.

Third-seeded Wahconah (20-1) took control of the game early with a 5-0 run to open the game and never looked back in earning its second straight trip to the state’s Final Four.

On Tuesday, it earned the right to face second-seeded Cohasset on a date to be determined for a berth in the state title game.

Joe Massaro again came up big in Wahconah’s goal, stopping 13 shots.

Jonah Smith, Billy O’Neill and Cadem Padelford each had a hat trick, and Jonathan Howard scored twice and set up a goal for Wahconah, which won its first three state tournament games by a combined margin of 65-12.

No. 6 Lynnfield threatened to make a game of it late in the second quarter when Drew Damiani scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to 9-4.

But Howard scored a man-up goal with an assist from Caden Padelford in the 22nd minute to send the hosts into the break with a six-goal lead.

It was a 10-goal margin after Lampron scored three straight in the third to put Wahconah ahead, 14-4.

But the Pioneers got a golden opportunity moments later when a Wahconah middie was whistled for back-to-back slashing penalties – one a two-minute non-releaseable infraction.

Twenty seconds into Lynnfield’s man-up opportunity, Massaro made a save to keep the lead at 10. Then Caden Padelford scored on a no-look shot for a man-down goal.

Massaro added another save on the penalty kill before Lynnfield finally cashed in, with 10 seconds left in the one-minute penalty, to get the margin back to 10 goals just before the end of the third quarter.

Midway through the fourth, Noah Poirier scored off one of his 17 faceoff wins to push the margin to 12 goals and get the game to running time.
