Pope Francis Tops Wahconah in Western Mass Final

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Gage Sperlonga scored five goals Wednesday to lead the Pope Francis boys lacrosse team to a 14-8 win over Wahconah in Western Massachusetts Class B Championship Game.
 
Jason Keiser had a hat trick for the Cardinals, who earned their second win of the season over Wahconah.
 
Back on April 8, Pope Francis took a 9-7 decision in Dalton.
 
In Wednesady's rematch, the Cards pulled away with a 4-1 second quarter to take a 7-2 lead into half-time.
 
Zachary Flannery had a hat trick to lead Wahconah's offense.
 
Jon Howard had a goal and two assists, and Rylan Padelford and Jacob Thomas scored a goal apiece.
 
Bryce Smith made 13 saves in the loss.
 
Pope Francis (14-3) started Wednesday by learning it is the No. 8 seed in the Division 3 State Championship.
 
Wahconah (15-2) is seeded eighth in D4 and will open play in the Round of 32 against No. 25 Hull (10-6) in Dalton.
