Auger OT Game-Winner Lifts Mount Greylock at Wahconah
DALTON, Mass. – Brady Auger scored an unassisted goal in the fourth overtime Friday to give the Mount Greylock boys lacrosse team an 11-10 win over Wahconah.
“Wahconah played tough, hardnosed lacrosse which was matched in intensity by the Mounties,” Mount Greylock coach Dan Collins said. “We had good key performances from all four of our captains: Dow Young, Finn Noyes, Brady Auger and offensive power house Braden Villnave.
Collins noted the long stick middie play of Noyes and the offensive contributions of Luke Irwin and Henry Easton.
Oden Wojtkowski earned the win in goal, and his brother Rex helped bolster the defense.
“Our defensive unit played their hearts out to prevent Wahconah’s potent outside shooters from scoring in OT, keeping them at bay,” Collins said. “Ed Strolle played a central role in our zone defense, newly converted from defensive middie to a long pole without missing a beat. He was bolstered by fellow poles Luis Pabon and newcomer Carson Huls. Defensive mids Jack Stratton and Hunter Wright played good positional short stick defense against the aggressive dodging game.”
Mount Greylock (2-1) goes to Springfield Central on Tuesday.
Wahconah (1-2) hosts South Hadley on Monday.
