CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Wahconah girls lacrosse team Monday overcame a four-goal half-time deficit to earn an 8-7, overtime win over Chicopee Comp.

Emily Figiela scored four goals, and Jilly Cote had two goals and three assists for Wahconah, which got seven saves from Sydney Smith in improving to 9-6-1 this spring.

“We were not winning any of the draws and the girls were slow in the first half,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “When we did get some nice shots their goalie made some great saves, she made 13 saves.

“The message at halftime was take care of the little things and be patient on offense and look for the cutters. They did a nice job of finding the open girl and executing. They slowly kept pecking away and one by one winning the draws and taking care of the ball.”

Grace Calvet and Kaeli Talora each scored a goal. Hannah Bowlby and Catie Ronayne had an assist apiece.

Wahconah hosts Mount Greylock on Wednesday.
