SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Pope Francis girls lacrosse team Monday took control of the game early and went on to a 14-9 win over Wahconah.

Olivia Roberts scored six goals and set up one of Anna Doyle’s three goals in the loss.

“Today we started off slow,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “After a few changes we played great and played them evenly the rest of the time. Unfortunately, we could not come back for the win.”

Budaj credited Paige Trager with helping to keep the Wahconah defense organized and keep the team in the game.

Phalyn Renderer stopped 10 shots in the loss.

Wahconah (1-1) next plays Monday at home against Granby.
