Mount Greylock Battles to One-Goal Win on Road in State Tournament

MASHPEE, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock girls lacrosse team Sunday overcame a two-goal half-time deficit and held off a late comeback drive by Mashpee to earn a 14-13 win in the Division 4 State Tournament Round of 16.
 
Sarah Polumbo scored five goals and Lucy McWeeny had five assists in the win.
 
Ainsley Abel added four for the ninth-seeded Mounties (19-3), who move on to Wednesday's State Quarter-Final at top-seeded Manchester Essex, which advanced on Saturday with a 13-0 win over Nipmuc.
 
Mashpee on Sunday led 8-4 late in the first half when Polumbo and Tess Leveque scored nine seconds apart in the 24th minute to draw the Mounties within two goals.
 
In the second half, Mount Greylock pulled out to a 14-11 lead when Abel scored with 7:25 left in regulation.
 
Mashpee got goals with 4 minutes, 21 seconds and 1:08 left to play before the Mounties were able to close the door and secure the win.
 
Teigan Brady earned the win between the pipes for Mount Greylock.
