LAKEVILLE, Mass. -- The Apponequet girls lacrosse team Monday handed Pittsfield an 18-4 loss in the preliminary round of the Division 3 State Tournament.

Ella Kroboth had a hat trick, and Lily Ferris scored a goal for the Generals, who got nine saves from LaNiyah Gregroy.

Asia Smith-Moody had a successful day defensively, holding Apponequet's leading scorer to just five goals.

"Unfortunately, they found pockets and utilized a fast transition game," PHS coach Molly West said.

Pittsfield finishes the season with a record of 10-5.

"We finished 10-5 and I could not be more proud of this group for the turnaround, winning the Suburban League and qualifying for a State game for the first time in program history," West said. "[On Monday], the girls saw the level of play we need to grow and our last day together was a learning experience and fun. We are already planning for next year's season."
