Hopkins Softball Rallies Past Lee in Extra Innings

HADLEY, Mass. – The Hopkins Academy softball team Monday rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn an 8-7 win over Lee in the Western Massachusetts Class D quarter-finals.
 
The Wildcats came back from a 4-2 deficit with three in the sixth to take the lead before Hopkins was able to tie it in the bottom of the seventh.
 
In the top of the ninth, Bri Lynch drove in a run with a single to center field, and Bella Kotek stole home in a double steal with Ariana Noyes to give Lee a 7-5 lead.
 
But Taylor Barry hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, and Maggie Potter drove in the winning run with two out.
 
Lynch went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and MaKayla Schuerer doubled twice in an 11-hit attack for Lee.
 
Lynch also went the distance in the circle, striking out 18 and allowing six earned runs.
 
Lee (11-8) will wrap up the regular season later this week against the loser of Tuesday’s game between Monson and Lenox.
