Tart, Hurricanes Outslug Drury

ADAMS, Mass. – Izabela Tart Wednesday went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, to lead the Hoosac Valley softball team to a 17-5 win over Drury.
Genevieve Lagess and Rachael Wnuk also homered in a 14-hit attack for the Hurricanes.
Hoosac Valley had a 6-3 lead after the second inning but broke the game open with an eight-run fifth.
Tart homered twice in the inning, starting things off with a solo homer.
Gianna Witek then singled, and with two out, Alayna Shears dropped a single into left field to keep the rally going. Trinity Bracket reached on a strikeout to load the bases and bring up the top of Hoosac Valley’s order.
Gracelyn Wright singled to left to drive in a pair of runs, and Wnuk and Lagess each worked a walk to reload the bases for Tart.
She then crushed a home run over the fence in right field to make it 15-5.
The Hurricanes rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game via the mercy rule.
Wright earned the win in the circle, striking out three and allowing four earned runs.
Olivia Perry and Ava Cariddi combined to allow 10 earned runs for Drury. Perry struck out seven hitters in five innings of work.
She also homered twice and drove in three runs to lead the Blue Devils’ offense.
Drury (7-6) hosts Mount Everett for a double-header on Thursday.
Hoosac Valley (11-2) is at McCann Tech on Friday.
