Mount Everett Comes Back to Top Hoosac Valley
SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Emma Goewey and Allison Steuernagle each went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI Friday as the Mount Everett softball team rallied from a two-run deficit to earn a 4-3 win over Hoosac Valley.
Steuernagle hit an RBI double and scored on Megan Loring’s single to left to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth, Julia Devoti led off with a double to left.
She went to third on a ground out off the bat of Torilynn Smith. Mercedes Kosik was inserted as a courtesy runner for Devoti, and, with two out, Goewey drove in Kosik with a single to right to give Mount Everett its first lead of the game at 4-3.
Devoti in the circle delivered a 1-2-3 seventh inning to lock down the win.
Devoti struck out three in earning the complete game win.
Hoosac Valley’s Averie McGovern struck out six and allowed three earned runs in six innings of work.
The Hurricanes got two hits apiece from Ella Bissaillon and Gracelyn Wright. Wright and Hannah Lord each doubled.
“Overall, I'm just super impressed with how we continue to handle adversity and make the plays in the field,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “Both Emily and Allison Steuernagle played extremely well in the field for us, and everyone made plays when need be. Couldn't be prouder of the entire team's effort whether in the field or at the plate as we had two clutch hits in the bottom fourth from Allison and Meg Loring to tie it. That being said our team captain, Emma, had two clutch hits and Julia had two hits today that were rally starters.
Mount Everett (2-0) hosts Ware on Monday.
Hoosac Valley (2-1) goes to Monument Mountain on Saturday.
