Taconic Powers Past Drury In Opener
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Taconic softball team’s second trip through the lineup made a big difference in its first game of the season.
Abby Soto went 4-for-5 with a double and six RBIs to lead the Thunder to a 16-5 win over Drury.
After picking up just one hit – a two-out double by Gi’Annah Moses – the first time through the order, Taconic pounded out 16 hits the rest of the way.
Kylie Duhamel went 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBIs, and Ella Stodden and Toni Ahoussie each had a pair of hits for Taconic.
Drury drew first blood, getting a run in the first when Jayda Klein led off the bottom of the first with a double to center and eventually scored on an error.
In the second, the Blue Devils doubled their lead with another unearned run. This time, Isabelle Chenail worked a one-out walk and eventually came home on a pitch that got to the backstop.
Taconic took the lead with a three-run rally in the top of the third.
After No. 9 hitter Rylee Coleman drew a one-out walk, Duhamel, Soto and Ahoussi each singled with one out to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead.
Drury drew even on Sloan Brothers’ RBI single in the bottom of the third, but Taconic broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fifth.
Mollie Crawford had the big run in that rally, a two-run double to center field.
Crawford also split time in the circle with Madi Barber. The pair gave up two earned runs for the win.
Drury split the pitching duties between Jaylee Moran and Evelyn Richardson.
