Wahconah Softball Falls at Abington
ABINGTON, Mass. – Madison McDonald went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs Wednesday to lead the Abington softball team to a 9-4 win over Wahconah in the Division 4 State Tournament Round of 16.
Wahconah rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh, but Abington’s Elsie Testa got the final out with a runner in scoring position to end the game and advance to the state quarter-finals.
Sydney Payson went 2-for-3, and Maddie Barnes and Alliah DiPietro each had a hit and an RBI for Wahconah.
Harper Keay and Marlee Arnhold split time in the circle for Wahconah, combining to strike out five.
"I'm incredibly proud of how we battled down the stretch of this season," Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. "The leadership, grit and team-first mentality of Edrie Collins, our only senior, meant everything to this team.
"With a number of underclassmen who stepped up and played major roles, the future of Wahconah softball is very bright."
Wahconah, which won six of its last nine games this spring, finishes the season with a record of 11-11.
