WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Mount Greylock softball team turned a double play in the seventh inning to help stem a four-run rally, and the Mounties hung on for a 7-6 win over defending state champion Turners Falls on Friday.

Emma Newberry and Brodi Rosier each homered, and Kami Sweet struck out six to earn the win in the circle.

The Thunder trailed all afternoon after Rosier and Newberry hit solo home runs in the bottom of the first to give the Mounties a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sweet drove in Madi Barber and Malia Koffi to put Mount Greylock on top, 7-2.

Turners Falls fought back in the top of the seventh and cut the deficit to one run with nobody out and runners on first and second.

But on the next batter, Barber fielded a ground ball at second and fed shortstop Newberry for the force; Newberry relayed to A.J. Pelkey to get the batter.

Sweet then got the next hitter to foul out to Pelkey to end the game.

Newberry went 2-for-3 with a couple of RBIs, and Sweet helped her cause by going 3-for-3 with four runs batted in.

Mount Greylock (2-2) goes to Taconic on Monday.
