Gateway Softball Holds on Against Spartans

HUNTINGTON, Mass. – The Gateway softball team Tuesday jumped out to a 6-0 lead and hung on for a 7-6 win over Monument Mountain.
 
Dakota Massey went 2-for-2 with a double in the Spartans’ two-run sixth inning. Mia Wade went 2-for-3, and Jade Abderhalden drove in a pair of runs.
 
Monument Mountain scored once and had two runners on in the top of the seventh when Gateway was able to record the last out.
 
The Spartans’ day was highlighted by some big defensive plays, including a diving catch in left by Alex Teney and a double play at second from Bella Viola.
 
Monument Mountain (1-1) hosts Mount Everett on Thursday.
