Ritcher, Fillio Recognized as Athletes of the Week
This week's iBerkshires.com/Bedard Bros. Athletes of the Week have their teams riding high going into the new year.
It has been a few years since the North County high school cooperative team has enjoyed a winning streak.
The McCann Tech Hornets won their third straight game on Saturday night in impressive fashion, knocking off local rival Taconic, 6-5, in overtime in front of a big crowd in North Adams.
Dallas Ritcher has seven goals in those three games, including his second hat trick in three games against the Thunder.
"Dallas is just all heart, and he never wants to come off the ice," McCann Tech coach Matt Parise said. "He just wants to be out there. I think he was nursing a little bit of an injury there. I think he hurt his ankle a little bit.
"Even trying to get him off the ice a bit for the injury was a challenge for me."
Along with linemates Everett Bayliss and Nolan Booth, Ritcher has given McCann Tech (3-2) a lethal scoring combination that it will take into a Saturday night home game against Brattleboro, Vt.
The Berkshire County High School Bowling League is enjoying a holiday break that lasts until Jan. 9.
That may not be enough time to cool off the league's hottest bowler, Devyn Fillio, who has helped Lee to a dominating 12-0 start in four matches and the top of the league standings.
Fillio owns the best game (238) and best series (408) among the league's girls this season.
She got that game in the team's last outing before the break, a 3-0 win over Mount Everett.
Fillio leads the Wildcats with a 189 average that she will try to improve upon when Lee goes to Cove Lanes on Jan. 9 to take on second-place McCann Tech.
