Abderhalden Scores 1,000th in Lee Season Finale
LEE, Mass. – The Lee boys basketball team dropped a four-point decision to Athol on a night when Joey Abderhalden scored his 1,000th career point.
Karim Thompson Tuesday scored 19 points to lead the Athol boys basketball team to a 61-57 win over the Wildcats in their regular season finale.
Abderhalden scored a game-high 25 points, including the 1,000th of his career with 2.7 seconds left to play.
“Joey, and all of our seniors, have meant so much to our team this year and throughout their careers,” Lee coach Dan Korte said. “Joey reaching this milestone is well deserved, and, as much as we would have loved to have it come in a win, it's a great accomplishment. He has worked so hard and is such a great kid and teammate.”
Mason Lucy scored 16 points, and John Brighenti added 10 for Lee.
The Wildcats needed a win on Tuesday to qualify for the Division 5 State Tournament. They finish the season with a record of 9-11.
