NORTHFIELD, Mass. -- Casey Meczywor scored 15 points to lead four Hurricanes in double figures Thursday as the Hoosac Valley boys basketball team opened the season with a 77-67 overtime win at Pioneer.

Joe Delmolino and Izaha Stubbs each scored 14, and Carson Meczywor chipped in with 13.

"We played very hard and unselfish but had some defensive lapses," Hoosac Valley coach David Harte Jr. said after winning his first game on the Hurricanes bench.

"They played for each other, and our collective will got us over the hump. We don't ahve a lot of experience, but we have kids that are getting better every day."

Hoosac Valley hosts Monument Mountain on Wednesday.
